Yo Gabba Gabba - Story Time

This was a rare opportunity for those of us at Wildbrain to work on the fabulous Yo Gabba Gabba show. We made a Story Time sequence which they gave us a script and a track for. I directed, storyboarded, and character designed (except for the cat by Sarah Forrester) this spot. I also did these very simple background designs. It was a pleasure to work on something with gentle timing for once and it gave us an opportunity to try something new, a 3D head with a flash body. Mike Overbeck is the genius behind this combination of techniques.

My turnarounds .

These are some rough color styled layouts that ended up being the actual backgrounds.

Wrigleys

It was nice to work on a dialog driven commercial even if the dialog was repetitive. I directed, storyboarded and did the character design on this spot.

OATMEAL Pitch

This was a test for a pitch for an oatmeal commercial , conceived by a very funny agency . We turned this around in about 24 hours. I story boarded, picked the very familiar scratch track and scanned the oats.Mike Overbeck animated this in about 8 hours on Photoshop 3's animation plug-in that he had never used before . WARNING ; to all you delicate flowers out there, this piece has swearing in it.

The actual story concept was that soldier oats were at war with high cholesterol food , these are designs for deadly tempura shrimp disguised as innocent forest creatures. This pitch was rejected by the oatmeal clients. It was fun, no time to second guess .

Live Action Boards

These are some samples of live action boards.

The fun emporium was a from a script for a spec piece about a horrible cab ride in NYC.

This board was for a scary P.S.A about spousal abuse that would eventually get roto'ed by hand.

This is the introduction to a 5 minute industrial for Sun that was going to use a bunch of stock footage.

This is the first half of a Target ad that was going to be hand roto'ed.

This is a for Wonderbread, I wanted it to look like Leni Riefenstahl film, they didn't like it.

Pre School character Designs

Here are a couple of groups of character designs I did for two different pre -school shows.

This was a "shrimp man", a goofy un- scary sea monster who needed to be schooled .
These are some takes on some goofy un- scary dragons .

Cap'n Crunch

Ahhh Cap'n Crunch - 4 years - 18 commercials only to be killed by obesity studies.
I always under boarded the live action (I didn't direct the live action, so it was just a place holder for me) and I over boarded the animation (the clients wanted choices for their over-the-top-cartoony-athletic-kid-action-stuff on ya).

Message In A Bottle

My crab designs for our only CG character in the whole campaign.Circus
Jean La Foote face prosthetics, fabulous.

School Play
Simplest spot of the bunch with my favorite dialog.
Carnival

Tree designs, they didn't go for my trees of woe,
they liked the goof ball succulent better.
