Financial Animation

A couple of years ago I was working as an in house "video art director" for a financial institution.I mostly designed lots of variations of  logos and graphics that were looked at by a lot of people in a lot of different departments.Stuff like this...

 

Then I returned to the the freelance pool and I started doing storyboards for internal spots for the

Live action beat boards

 These are preliminary boards that were done for a live action spot for a sentimental plush toy with a minimal amount of direction.These represent an early stage in the process(no script,no story.)The purpose of this stage of boards is to present ideas for shots and set ups so a conversation about schedule budget and story can START.These kind of "beat" boards need to be done quickly and without refinement because with so little direction,there is no way to know what is going to be kept or discarded

These are some live action boards I did for an unnamed production company for an unnamed children's wax drawing implement.The design for the animation was still in progress when I did my boards ,I was focused on set ups for the live action director.

SuperNike ,Friendship

Here is one of three Nike spots for Japan I directed, where the animated characters were supposed to look "manga" style not anime , hence the comic book speed lines and sound fx bubbles .The final character designs were by an authentic Japanese comic artist and the animation was done in Vancouver by Natterjack .For the live action portions I got a chance to direct some major leaguers , Ken Griffey Jr. and a couple of Japanese players .

These are some samples of live action boards.

The fun emporium was a from a script for a spec piece about a horrible cab ride in NYC.

This board was for a scary P.S.A about spousal abuse that would eventually get roto'ed by hand.

This is the introduction to a 5 minute industrial for Sun that was going to use a bunch of stock footage.

This is the first half of a Target ad that was going to be hand roto'ed.

This is a for Wonderbread, I wanted it to look like Leni Riefenstahl film, they didn't like it.
